The Stone Bridge of Palaiokarya

The one-arched Stone Bridge of Palaiokarya is located 11 km From Pyli and is only 25 km away from the city of Trikala. The bridge was built in the 16th century (between 1500-1550) by the Ottomans and its use was to connect Trikala to Epirus, which was a busy route of that time. Behind the arch of the bridge, an artificial waterfall creates a spectacular image and a fantastic view. The river that passes through the spot is Palaiokaritis. The bridge frames steep, high rocks with a lot of trees, a variety of herbs and wildflowers, which adorns the whole area. All in all, this monument is worth seeing, both for its historical background and for its enchanting landscape.
